vCard Viewer & Converter
Open contacts saved as vCard (.vcf) files, from phones, Outlook, Google or Apple Contacts, see who's in them, and save them as one file, a file per contact, or a CSV spreadsheet. Reads vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0 and writes 3.0 or 4.0, and turns a contacts CSV into vCards.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
Read the contacts in vCard (.vcf) files, the format phones, Outlook, Google Contacts and Apple’s Contacts use to
share and export contacts, and save them in the form you need.
- When you’re moving contacts between systems: open the export from one and save it in the version or format the other takes, such as vCard 3.0 for older software or a CSV for a spreadsheet.
- When you’ve several files, or one big one: merge them into one
.vcf, leaving out duplicates, or split one into a file per contact. - When your contacts are in a spreadsheet: save it as CSV and turn it into vCards to import into a phone.
How to use it
Choose or drop .vcf or .csv files (several at once are merged in the order chosen), or paste vCards or CSV
text. Each contact is listed with its name, organisation, email addresses and phone numbers.
- Save as one .vcf writes every contact in the vCard version chosen; Save a .vcf for each (ZIP) writes a file per contact, named after them.
- Save as CSV writes a spreadsheet with a column for each part of the name, each email address, phone number and address (as many as the contact with the most has), their types, the website, birthday and note.
- Leave out duplicates drops a contact with the same name, email addresses and phone numbers as one before it; Leave out photos makes smaller files.
A CSV is read from this tool’s own columns, or the usual ones from Google Contacts (Given Name, E-mail 1 -
Value…) and Outlook (First Name, Mobile Phone, Business City…). Settings are remembered in this browser.
Example
Paste this vCard 2.1, as older phones write it:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N;CHARSET=UTF-8;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:M=C3=BCller;J=C3=BCrgen;;;
TEL;HOME;VOICE:+49 30 1234
END:VCARD
The list shows Jürgen Müller with +49 30 1234. Save as one .vcf in version 3.0 writes:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
FN:Jürgen Müller
N:Müller;Jürgen;;;
TEL;TYPE=home,voice:+49 30 1234
END:VCARD
Good to know
Contacts are personal data: they stay in this browser, but take care where you save and send the files. Details this tool doesn’t know (such as social profiles or custom fields) are kept in vCard files but left out of the CSV, and some apps ignore parts written by others. Duplicates are only exact matches; two entries for one person that differ at all are both kept. Files are read as UTF-8, or Windows-1252 if they aren’t valid UTF-8, unless a vCard says otherwise. Check the result in the app you import it into before deleting the originals.
