User Agent Parser

Read a User-Agent string: the browser and version, its engine, the operating system and the kind of device, with this browser's own string and client hints.

About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example

What it's for

Work out what sent a request from its User-Agent header: which browser and version, on which operating system and kind of device, or whether it was a crawler or a script.

For example, when a bug report or a server log has a user agent in it, paste it here to see that it came from Chrome 128 on an Android phone before you try to reproduce the problem.

How to use it

The box starts with this browser’s own user agent. Paste another, from a log or a header, and it’s read as you type, showing the browser and version, the engine (Blink, Gecko, WebKit), the operating system and the device (desktop, phone, tablet, TV, crawler, or a script or library such as curl).

This browser’s client hints shows what Chrome-based browsers report through navigator.userAgentData, which is more exact than the string: the full version, platform version, architecture and phone model. Firefox and Safari don’t send them. Use this browser’s puts this browser’s string back. Copy a link to this input keeps the user agent.

Example

Choose Try an example, which types this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 14; Pixel 8) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/128.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36

It’s Chrome 128.0.0.0 with the Blink engine, on Android 14, on a phone.

Good to know

User agents are easy to fake and are being cut down on purpose: Chrome reports only its major version and a fixed Android model, and every browser on a Mac reports macOS 10.15.7 whatever the real version, so the string can’t tell a Mac from an iPad. Windows 10 and 11 send the same string. The patterns cover the common browsers, bots and tools; an unusual one shows as Unknown.
