About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
See what a Base64-encoded image actually is, and save it as a file. Useful when an image turns up as a long string of text in HTML, CSS, JSON, a log or an API response.
For example, when an API returns a thumbnail or a QR code as Base64, paste it here to check it and download it.
How to use it
Paste the Base64, with or without a data:image/…;base64, prefix, and choose Show image. The tool works out the image type from the data itself (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP, ICO or SVG), shows the picture with its type and size, and gives you a Download link with the right file extension.
Example
Paste this and choose Show image:
PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHdpZHRoPSI2NCIgaGVpZ2h0PSI2NCI+PGNpcmNsZSBjeD0iMzIiIGN5PSIzMiIgcj0iMjgiIGZpbGw9IiMwNzk4RjUiLz48L3N2Zz4=
A blue circle appears, described as image/svg+xml, 116 bytes, and Download saves it as image.svg.
Good to know
If the data isn’t a recognised image type, the tool says so rather than guessing. Some formats, such as AVIF in older browsers, may not display but can still be downloaded.
Private: this tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type, paste or choose leaves this page.
