Animated GIF Maker
Turn still images into an animated GIF: set their order, how long each one shows, and whether it loops.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
Turn a set of still images into one animated GIF, the looping picture format that works almost everywhere: chat apps, email, documentation and web pages.
For example, when you want to show the steps of a process from a few screenshots, or turn a burst of photos into a short clip.
How to use it
Choose your images, or drop them on the page. You can pick several at once and add more later, including an animated GIF, which adds all its frames so you can retime, reorder, trim or resize it. Each appears in the list with a thumbnail: the arrows move it earlier or later, the cross removes it, and the box beside it sets how long that frame shows, in milliseconds. Leave a frame’s box blank to use the Default delay.
Loop plays the animation forever, once, or a set number of times. Width and Height work as in Image Convert / Resize. Images with different proportions are fitted inside the first image’s shape and centred, with any gap left transparent. The GIF is remade after every change and shown below with its size and running time; Download saves it. The default delay and loop settings are remembered.
Example
Take three screenshots of the same window. Choose them all, then set Default delay to
800
and set the last frame’s own delay to 2000. With Loop on Forever, the GIF shows each step for under a
second and pauses on the result for two before starting again. The message under the settings shows 3 frames
and 3.6 s a play.
Good to know
A GIF has at most 256 colours per frame, so photos look grainier than the originals, while screenshots and drawings stay crisp. Pixels can be fully transparent or fully solid, nothing in between. Delays are stored in hundredths of a second, and browsers treat very short ones as slow, so the shortest delay is 20 milliseconds. An animated GIF you add becomes one entry per frame, keeping its delays; animated WebP and PNG files add only their first frame. Large or many frames make large files and take a moment to build. Everything happens in your browser.
Choose several at once, or add more later. They play from the top of the list. Leave a frame's delay blank to use the default.
Set one of width and height to keep the first image's proportions. Left blank, the GIF is the first image's size, but no more than 800 pixels on its longest side.
