mailto Link Builder
Make a mailto: link that opens a new email with the address, subject, body, cc and bcc filled in, correctly encoded, as a link, HTML or Markdown; or paste a link to read and change it.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
Make a link that starts an email. Clicking a mailto: link opens the reader’s mail app with a new message, and the
link can fill in the address, subject, body, cc and bcc. Spaces, line breaks and symbols such as & have to be
encoded in a particular way, which this does for you.
For example, when a web page needs a “Report a problem” link that opens an email to support with the subject and a template already in place, fill in the fields here and paste the HTML into the page.
How to use it
Fill in any of To, Cc, Bcc, Subject and Body. Several addresses go in one field, separated by commas or semicolons. Link text is the clickable text in the HTML and Markdown versions; without it, the first To address is used.
The link, an HTML <a> tag and a Markdown link update as you type, each with a Copy button. Try it in your email
app opens the link, so you can check it. To change an existing link, paste it into Read a link you have, and
its parts are put into the fields.
Example
To help@example.com, subject Question about order 1042, and this body:
Hello,
I have a question about my order.
Thanks
The link is mailto:help@example.com?subject=Question%20about%20order%201042&body=Hello%2C%0D%0A%0D%0AI%20have%20a%20question%20about%20my%20order.%0D%0A%0D%0AThanks,
152 characters long.
Good to know
What happens on click depends on the reader’s device: with no mail app set up, nothing may happen, and some web mail and apps ignore bcc or cut off very long links (the message warns at 2,000 characters). Attachments can’t be added by a link. Addresses in a page can be collected by spammers, so a link on a public page is likely to bring some spam.
Private: this tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type, paste or choose leaves this page.
