SCORM Wrapper
Turn one or more files (PDFs, videos, audio, images or web pages) into a SCORM 1.2 package an LMS can track. The learner pages through them in order, and it reports completion when they reach the last one, or when they press a button on a closing page such as “Confirm read and understood”.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
Make a SCORM 1.2 package from files that can’t talk to a learning management system (LMS) by themselves, so the LMS can launch them and record a completion. The learner sees one file at a time, with Previous and Next, and the package reports completion when they reach the last file, or when they press the button on a closing page.
For example, when a policy PDF and a short video have to be assigned to everyone with a record that they’ve read it, add both here, choose the closing page with “Confirm read and understood”, and upload the ZIP to the LMS.
How to use it
Choose the files, or drop them on the page. Add more at any time. Use ↑ and ↓ to put them in order, and change
each one’s title, which is shown above it. PDFs, web pages (.html) and text appear in the page; videos and audio
get the browser’s player; images are shown at their size; anything else, such as a Word file, gets a download link.
- Complete: On the last file reports completion when the last file is shown. With a closing page adds a page after the last file with your heading, text (blank lines start new paragraphs) and button; completion is reported when it’s pressed, and the line under After pressing it appears.
- Status to report:
completed, orpassedfor an LMS that only counts a pass. - Language is the page’s language code, such as
enorde, for screen readers. - Wording on the page changes the fixed words, for a course in another language. In Position,
{n}is the page number and{total}the number of pages; in Download link,{name}is the file name.
Save the package (ZIP) downloads it, named after the identifier (or the title). The closing page, wording, language and status settings are remembered in this browser.
Example
Choose any PDF and any image, set Complete to With a closing page, and save. The ZIP holds
imsmanifest.xml, index.html, wrap.js, wrap.css and your two files in a content folder. Open it in the
Package Inspector and the checks find nothing wrong. Launch it in the Package Player and the page shows
“1 of 3” with the PDF; Next shows the image (“2 of 3”) and then the closing page (“3 of 3”). The log shows
cmi.core.lesson_status set to incomplete at the start and to completed when you press the button.
Good to know
Each file is shown as it is: a web page that loads other files (pictures, scripts) needs them inside it, as only the files you add are in the package. How a PDF looks depends on the learner’s browser; on some phones it opens as a link rather than in the page, so each file also has an Open in a new tab link.
The package uses SCORM 1.2, which almost every LMS takes. It remembers the learner’s place (cmi.core.lesson_location)
and sets cmi.core.exit to suspend until it’s complete, so a learner who leaves part-way comes back to the same
file. Nothing checks that a file was read: reaching the last file, or pressing the button, is what counts.
Choose several at once, or add more later. Each one's title is shown above it.
Wording on the page
