Unit Converter

Type a value in one unit and see it in every other unit of its kind: data size (decimal and binary), time, length, mass, temperature, area, volume, speed, angle, pressure and energy; and percentages between two numbers.

About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example

What it's for

Convert a value into every unit of its kind at once: data size, time, length, mass, temperature, area, volume, speed, angle, pressure and energy. It also works out percentages between two numbers. Seeing the whole table together saves converting one pair at a time.

For example, when a disk is sold as 500 GB but your system reports it in GiB, or a spec gives a speed in megabits and you need megabytes.

How to use it

Choose a category, pick the unit your value is in, and type the value. Every unit in the category is shown as you type, each with a Copy button. Spaces and underscores in the number are ignored, and 1e6 style numbers work.

Data size has two kinds of byte. Decimal units (kB, MB, GB, TB, PB) are powers of 1000, as used by drive makers and networks. Binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB, PiB) are powers of 1024, as used by many operating systems and memory sizes. Kilobits, megabits and gigabits are 1000, 1000² and 1000³ bits.

Use Copy a link to this input to share the category, unit and value as a link.

Under Percentages, type two numbers to see the first as a percentage of the second, the percentage change from one to the other, and the second increased or decreased by the first as a percentage.

Example

Choose Data size, pick gibibyte (GiB) and type:

1

The table shows 1073741824 bytes, 1.073741824 gigabytes (GB) and 8589934592 bits.

Good to know

A year is 365.25 days. Gallons, pints, cups and fluid ounces are the US sizes unless marked UK. Values are shown to 12 significant digits, and very large or small ones use exponent form such as 8e15. Temperatures below absolute zero are rejected. Currency isn’t included, as rates change.
