GPS Track Viewer
Open a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file to see its tracks drawn, with each one's distance, climb and time, then save it as GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV, if you like without times, heights or the part near where it starts and ends.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
Look at a GPS track and save it in another format. Sports watches, cycling and walking apps, and mapping sites export tracks as GPX, KML or GeoJSON, and this shows what’s in one, converts it, and can take out the details you might not want to share.
For example, when you want to share a run that starts at your front door, open its GPX file, set Hide where tracks start and end to 300 metres, tick Remove times, and save the copy instead.
How to use it
Choose a .gpx, .kml or .geojson file, or drop it on the page. The tracks (and routes) are drawn with north
at the top, starting in green and ending in red, with waypoints as small dots; hover over a dot for its name. The
table gives each track’s points, distance, climb and descent, lowest and highest points, and its start time,
duration and average speed when the file has times.
Under Save a copy:
- Remove times and Remove heights leave those out.
- Hide where tracks start and end drops the points at the beginning of each track until it’s that many metres from where it started, the same at the end, and any waypoint that close to either. The table and drawing update to show what will be saved.
- Format (remembered in this browser) is GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV, and Save downloads the copy. The original file isn’t changed.
Example
Save this as walk.gpx and open it:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gpx version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/1/1">
<trk><name>Lunch walk</name><trkseg>
<trkpt lat="51.5007" lon="-0.1246"><ele>5</ele><time>2026-10-05T12:00:00Z</time></trkpt>
<trkpt lat="51.5033" lon="-0.1196"><ele>8</ele><time>2026-10-05T12:06:00Z</time></trkpt>
<trkpt lat="51.5081" lon="-0.1281"><ele>12</ele><time>2026-10-05T12:15:00Z</time></trkpt>
</trkseg></trk></gpx>
The table shows Lunch walk: 3 points, 1.25 km, 7 m up and 0 m down (5–12 m), starting at 2026-10-05 12:00:00 UTC
and taking 15 min 00 s at 5 km/h. With Remove times ticked and CSV chosen, the saved walk-tidied.csv has a
row for each point with its latitude, longitude and height, and an empty time.
Good to know
There’s no map under the drawing: map pictures would have to come from another website, and nothing here leaves the page. Distances are measured point to point on a sphere, so they’re a little shorter than a watch that smooths the line may show. The climb adds up every rise between points, so GPS height jitter makes it larger than the true figure.
It doesn’t read zipped KML (.kmz): unzip it first with Compress / Decompress. KML’s polygons and GeoJSON’s
shapes other than points and lines are left out, and saving as KML keeps each track’s line but not its times.
