LMS Settings Checker
Paste SuccessFactors Learning label or settings text (key=value lines) to see it highlighted and checked for duplicate keys, broken lines, unpaired quotes and unclosed {placeholders}. Compare two languages' files for missing keys and placeholders that differ, and sort the keys.
About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example
What it's for
SuccessFactors Learning keeps its custom labels and some settings as plain key=value lines, which admins often copy out into a text editor to change and paste back. This shows that text highlighted, as Stephen’s Visual Studio Code extension for it does, and points out lines that may not do what you expect before you paste them back.
For example, when you’ve had labels translated, paste the English export as the first file and the translation as the second, and see which labels are missing and which have lost a {0} placeholder that the system fills in.
How to use it
Paste the text, or choose or drop a file on the Settings or labels box. Comments (lines starting #), keys,
the =, double-quoted strings, escapes such as \: and {placeholders} are coloured, and each problem is listed
with a link to its line:
- errors: a line with no
=, a value with no key, and a\uescape without four hex digits; - warnings: a key used twice (the later one counts), a key with spaces in it, an unpaired double quote, a
{or}without its partner, a value ending in spaces, and one ending in\, which joins the next line on.
Under Compare with another language, paste or drop a second file to list keys in only one of them, keys whose placeholders differ, and keys with the same text in both (which may not have been translated). Save sorted by key saves the first text with its settings in key order, each keeping the comments just above it and any comments at the top staying first. Copy a link keeps both texts.
Example
Paste this:
#Sun Dec 29 16:17:18 UTC 2024
notification.example01=This is just simple text
notification.example03=An escaped colon \: in the value
notification.example05=Some {variables} or {tokens}
notification.example05=A "quoted string
The message reads “4 settings: 2 warnings.”, for line 5: ““notification.example05” is also on line 4: the later one is used.” and “A double quote here has no partner.”
Good to know
The checks follow the format as it appears in label exports; they can’t tell whether a key exists in SuccessFactors Learning or whether a value is right for it. “No problems found” covers only the checks listed. Placeholders inside a double-quoted string are treated as part of the string when highlighting, as in the extension, but still counted when comparing. Line breaks and the order of lines are kept except when saving sorted.
