URL Inspector

Splits a URL, including app URL schemes and x-callback-url, into its parts and an editable list of query parameters, and rebuilds it with every parameter percent-encoded. Unwraps Outlook Safe Links, Proofpoint and redirect links, and defangs or refangs links for security reports.

About this tool What it's for, how to use it and an example

What it's for

Pull a URL apart so you can read and change it: scheme, host, port, path, fragment and each query parameter, decoded. It also handles app URL schemes and x-callback-url links, such as those used by Shortcuts, Drafts and other automation apps.

For example, when a long link is full of tracking parameters or nested callback URLs, paste it here to see what each part does, remove what you don’t need, and copy a clean version.

How to use it

Paste a URL. Its parts are listed with Copy buttons, and the query parameters appear as an editable list of names and values, already decoded. Change a name or value, remove a parameter or choose Add parameter, and the Rebuilt URL updates with every parameter percent-encoded correctly. A value that is itself a URL, such as x-success, can be inspected in turn. Tick Read + as a space for links from web forms.

Unwrap finds the real link inside a redirect or a mail scanner’s wrapper: Outlook Safe Links, Proofpoint URL Defense, and Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and YouTube redirects, however many times it’s wrapped. The tool says when a link is one of these. Defang makes links unclickable for sharing in a security report (hxxps://evil[.]example[.]com), and Refang turns them back, from [.], (.), [dot] and [:] too.

Example

Paste this:

https://shop.example.com:8443/search?q=fish%20%26%20chips&sort=price#results

You get the scheme https, host shop.example.com, port 8443, path /search and fragment results, plus two parameters: q is fish & chips and sort is price. Change price to rating and the rebuilt URL updates.

Good to know

Parameters are rebuilt in the order shown, and every value is percent-encoded, so the rebuilt URL can look slightly different from the original even when it means the same thing.

Query parameters

Edit a name or value and the URL is rebuilt, with every parameter percent-encoded. A value that is itself a URL, such as x-success, can be inspected in turn.
